Itinerary
Day 1- Alma to Goose River: Visitors will arrive at FreshAir Adventure's home-base in Alma at 9:00 o'clock for outfitting and packing of kayaks and dry-land training. At 10:30 we will be on our way, exiting Alma's scenic harbour and travelling along the Fundy National Park coastline. We will pass Devil's Half Acre, Matthews Head and Squaws Cap. At Point Wolfe, we will paddle up to the covered bridge, and learn about the early history of this area. Lunch will be prepared on a sand bar where Mi'kmaq Indians camped and schooners docked.
After lunch, we will pass along Precambrian cliffs, perhaps observing the harbour porpoises and seals that frequent the area. In early afternoon we will reach Goose River. Some say that Captain Kidd had buried his treasure here. This scenic spot will be our home for the next two days. Here there are the choices of further exploration by kayak, exploring the hiking trails at the top of the cliffs or just relaxing before preparations for dinner. For the camera buff, there are spectacular shots all around.
Day 2 - Goose River to Little Salmon River: From Goose River, we will paddle towards the headland seen in the distance - Martin Head. There will be time to explore the island and have lunch. Several gravestones and building foundations stand testament to the days when a lighthouse occupied the high point of Martin Head. Following lunch, we will continue past such spots as Rapidy Brook and then Little Salmon River. Here we will make camp with the superb view of the Bay and Isle Haute before us. A hike into a spectacular gorge will complete the day
Day 3 - Little Salmon to Big Salmon: On this day we will explore the most spectacular part of the coastline - poking around sea stacks, along hidden beaches and beneath towering cliffs. At Big Salmon River there may be time to explore the newly built Interpretative Centre. If weather conditions are not good we will take out here - otherwise we continue to Saint Martins and the end of the trip.
